An Easy Way To Make Your Own
Book Of Shadows
Materials:
3-Ring Binder (1/2"- 5" your choice)
1/2 Yard of material
Tacky Glue
Scissors
Decorations such as ribbon, rhinestones, charms, etc.
Take the binder and center it on the material for fit.
Take one end of the material and glue and tuck it under the metal binder spine.
Measure the opposite end of the material, then cut and do the same under the other end of the binder spine. (NOTE: You may wish to spot-glue the material to the inner and outer sides of the binder to keep the material in place. However, this is optional for if you get a good and tight glue and tuck under the binder spine, this is not necessary.)
Cut the material that is extended from the top and the bottom of the binder to 1/2" - 3/4" from the ends.
On the corners, cut a slit on the material so you can fold and glue each half individually around the binder and tuck the ends. (This is sort of like wrapping a present.)
Glue and tuck any "corner-ears" that may have formed, and flatten nicely.
Let the binder dry 3-4 hours, then decorate to your desire. (NOTE: use ribbon to cover any seams you may have.)
Now the hard part, decide what information you want to include in your B.O.S. But, I'll leave that up to you! :)
Broom
An Easy Way To Make Your Own Besom
Materials:
1- Four foot dowel or stick (1 inch in diameter.)
Ball of twine
scissors
Straw, twigs, or herbs for the bristles.
Take the straw, and allow it to soak overnight in warm, lightly salted water. (the water softens the straws to make them pliable, and the salt soaks out former energies.)
When you are ready to make your besom, remove the straws from the water and allow them to dry a bit, but not so much that they lose the suppleness you will need to turn them into your besom.
Find a work area where you can lay out the length of your dowel, and begin lining the straws along side the dowel.
Starting about three inches from the bottom, lay the straws, moving backward, along the length of the dowel.
Begin binding these to the dowel with twine.
You will need to tie them very securely.
You can add as many layers of straw as you wish, depending on how full you would like your besom to be.
When the straw is secured, bend the top straws down over the twine ties.
When they are all gently pulled over, tie off the straws again a few inches below the original tie.
Leave the besom overnight to allow the straw to dry.
The dowel part of the besom can be stained, painted, or decorated with pagan symbols, your craft name, or any other embellishments you choose.
Dedicate your finished besom in your circle as you would any other ritual tool.
Oils
An Easy Way To Make Your Own Oils
Materials:
Mineral Oil
Fresh or dried herbs/flowers
Jar (any size you want) with a tight fitting lid
Place mineral oil and herbs in jar, place lid on tightly.
Store it in a dark cool area.
Once a week for 2 weeks, shake the jar.
On the third week, strain the herbs out using cheesecloth or a coffee filter.
At this time add more herbs and oil (if needed)and follow the same procedure for another two weeks.
Smell the oil as you go along to determine the strength of the scent you want.
When you have achieved the scent, strain the herbs out again, and store the oil in a dark cool area.
This process may take awhile, but if you can't afford your own oils, it is definately worth the wait. Oils are very expensive!
Tarot cards
(1) Buy a package of 3"x5" cards (you can get some pretty colored ones at stationary stores and some office warehouse places; otherwise your local drug store has the standard white lined 3"x5" cards which will do just fine). (Actually, if you can find 5"x7" cards that's even better, because you can get 4 Hollywood Tarot cards on each one, which wastes a lot less of our natural resources. But 5"x7" cards are a bugger to find).
(2) Print out the pages given below. This is going to take some time, so do this on a day when you really don't have a life. NOTE: this is set up to print out according to my computer and my printer. I haven't a clue whether or not it's going to print out right with your settings, and I don't have the computer skills to tell you how to reset anything. Sorry. Also, be prepared to have the quality of the pictures really suck.
Note: this helpful suggestion comes from Hollywood Tarot reader Connie:
(3) Cut out the pretty pictures and glue them onto the 3"x5" cards. Personally, I like using glue sticks for this sort of work. Trim the cards as needed--but note that some of them are a eensy bit wider than others, so you'll need to set up a standard.
(4) You can quit now if you want, or you can do what I do--laminate them, so that if you spill your coffee on them or something you don't have to start this whole tedious process all over again. Your local copy center can laminate them, or you can do what I do--use clear Contact paper (note: this takes practice, and you might get some wrinkles the first few times. Also, the copy center laminations are glossier).
(5) Have lots of non-profitable fun, in the privacy of your own home.

Wand
An Easy Way To Make Your Own Wand
Materials:
Stick from a tree*: This should be approx. 8"-12" long, or whatever feels most comfortable to you. (I get mine off of the ground, there isn't any need to harm the tree if you don't have to.)
Glue: Tacky, Super, or Epoxy (Read bottle for best application.)
Decorations: such as crystal points, stones, ribbon, paint to draw runes or symbols.
This is your wand, so decorate it however you feel fit.
This is how I decorated mine:
I found a stick in the woods that I felt comfortable with, (believe me, I went through a lot of them before I found one I liked.)
I sawed off each end, then I drilled a hole into the tip of it and attached a crystal point to it using epoxy glue.
Then I wrapped the body of the stick in thin leather and stitched it together using fake sinew.
I painted small symbols and runes on it, and attached a crystal sphere to the end of it.
I think it really looks nice :-)
*Wood you can choose from for your wand:
Cedar: Healing, purification, protection
Cherry: Love
Ebony: Protection, magickal energy
Elder: Spirituality, protection
Eucalyptus: Healing
Maple: Love, money
Oak: Strength, health
Pine: Money, healing, exorcism
Walnut: Health
Willow: Psychic awareness, blessings of the Moon

Magickal pen
An Easy Way To Make Your Own Magick Pen
Materials:
Feather*
Calligraphy pen nib (tip)
Black ribbon
Superglue
Clear tape
Decorations such as rhinestones, small feathers, seed beads, or paint. (Of course decorations are optional.)
Attach your pen nib to the end of the feather with superglue. Hold it in place with clear tape while it dries.
After it is dry, cover the tape with black ribbon. (Use black ribbon so the ink won't stain your feather and also so you can't see the tape.
Add decorations if desired to suit your needs or taste.
*The magical qualities of feathers are determined by their color (and, sometimes, by the birds from which they fell).
Below is a composite of feather lore from (mostly) European folk magick sources, and it differs from that of color symbolism in general.
It's always best to use found feathers as opposed to purchased feathers.
Walks in parks, or in zoos, can provide a wealth of materials.
If you keep birds, you have an even more reliable supply. Never harm a bird to obtain a feather.

Insence
An Easy Way To Make Your Own Incense
Materials:
Heat proof dish
Sand
Charcoal Block
Dried herbs or Spices
Place sand in heat proof dish.
Place charcoal block on sand. (You can break these in half if you don't want them to burn as long.)
Light the edge of the charcoal block with a match or taper. (DO NOT HOLD THE CHARCOAL IN YOUR HANDS WHILE LIGHTING!)
Once the block is glowing and the saltpeter in it has stopped sparkling, sprinkle a half-teaspoon or so of the herb or spice on the block.
Use a small spoon if you wish. It will immediately start to burn, and in doing so, release fragrant smoke.
Use just a small amount of incense at first. When the smoke starts to thin out, add more. (If you dump on a large amout of incense at once, it will extinguish the charcoal block, so use a small amount.)
Don't knock off the ash that forms on top of the charcoal unless the incense starts to smell foul. If that happens, scrape off the burning incense and the ash with a spoon and add a fresh spoonful.
The Charcoal block should be left to burn out and cool in the sand.
To extinguish a block before it has fully cooled, quench it in a container of cold water. (DO NOT PICK IT UP WITH YOUR HANDS!)

Here are some one-herb incenses that can be burned on charcoal blocks as needed.
They are instant incenses, needing no mixing or measuring. Simply grind them before use.
1) Allspice: Burn to attract money and luck and to provide extra physical energy.
2) Bay: Use a small amount for purification and protection of the home.
3) Cedar: Smoulder for purification, protection, to speed healing and promote spirituality, and to obtain money.
4) Cinnamon: Burn to sharpen psychic powers, to draw money, speed healing, confer protection and to strenghten love.
5) Clove: Protection, exorcism, money, love and purification.
6) Fern: Burn the dried fronds indoors to exorcise evil, and outdoors to bring rain.
7) Juniper: Exorcism, protection, healing and love.
8) Pine: smoulder for money, purification, healing and exorcism.
9) Rosemary: Burn for protection, exorcism, purification, healing and to cause sleep; to restore or maintain youth, to bring love and to increase intellectual powers.
10)Sage: Smoulder to promote healing and spirituality.
11)Sandalwood: For Protection, healing, exorcism, and spirituality.
12)Thyme: Health, healing and purification.
Magick mirror
An Easy Way To Make Your Own
Magick Mirror
Materials:
1 small mirror 1/2"-12" diameter (any shape)
1 piece of glass, cardboard, or wood. (This needs to have at least an inch larger diameter than your mirror.) (If using glass, you can get large round glass ornaments at any craft store, they already have a hole poked in them for hanging.)
Super glue and Tacky glue (BE CAREFUL USING SUPER GLUE! IT WILL STICK TO YOUR SKIN, AND CAN EVEN BURN YOU!)
Cord or wire (for hanging the mirror)
Plate holder (optional if you don't want to hang your mirror. This is what I use.)
Cording to go around the outside (to frame it- Optional.)
Decorations such as paint, rhinestones, sea-shells, rocks, feathers, etc.
Clean your mirror and glass front and back.
Center the mirror on top of the glass, or cardboard etc.
Glue it down using Super glue, and let it dry.
Glue cording around the outside of your glass or cardboard for decoration using Tacky glue if you desire.
Now you can decorate around the mirror. (Do not put anything on the actual mirror, this must stay clean for spell work.)
Attach hanging cord (poke hole in cardboard if necessary.)
Make sure all materials are dry before using your mirror.

Chalice
an easy way to make a chalice is with a wine glass just decorate it how you want it, like with a permament marker draw a pentacle in the middle of the cup, glue feathers or whatever you want.
Holy water(not a tool)
An Easy Way To Make Your Own
Holy Water
Materials:
1 tsp of Rose Water (optional)
3 tbsp sea salt or Kosher salt
1 small bowl of spring water*
1 clean glass container
1 new compact mirror
1 storage bottle (small)
* Note: Spring water is extremely hard to come by. You may not be able to trust the bottled water, as it had been determined that many who use it are victims of false advertising, so be sure you are familiar with the spring water company. I suggest going on a small hiking trip with a large glass jar (like the type you buy family-size fruit in), and filling your jar from a running stream or other "live" body of water that is well known for "good fishing."
Cleanse and sterilize the bowl and glass container with boiling water.
Insure that you have total privacy during preparation.
Time: Midnight during a Full Moon phase.
Place: Out of doors under the moon, or near a window that will reflect the light of the moon.
Set out your work cloth and all ingredients upon it.
Take five or six deep breaths to relieve the stress of the day.
Cast your magick circle. Hold your arms outstreched in the Goddess position (arms out at the sides like you are cradling the Universe, palms up.) Say:
In the cloak of the midnight hour
I call upon the Ancient Power
I seek the presence of the Lady and Lord
To bless this water that I will pour.
At this point, you should feel the energy of Earth Mother and Skyfather move about your feet and head. Feel your own energy expand around your navel and then unite with Divinity. Take your time; no need to rush.
Add the rose water to the spring water. Pick up the bowl of water, hold it toward the light of the moon, and say:
In my hands I hold the essence of the Gods. I hereby cleanse and consecrate this water to Divinity that it may be used for positive acts only and may aid me in my magickal work.
Feel the energy of the Moon Goddess pulsate down into the water. Imagine her silver light descending from the heavens and impregnating both the water and yourself. You will feel a "glowy" sensation.
Set the water down and picl up the salt. Feel the power moving in your arms as you raise the salt toward the moon. Say:
In my hands I hold the essence of Earth Mother; she whose bounty sustains all living creatures. I hereby consecrate this salt to Divinity that it may be used for positive acts only and may aid me in my magickal work.
As with the water, imagine the energy of the Moon Goddess empowering the salt.
Set the salt down and pour a little into the bowl of water, and stir clockwise three times. Repeat this process twice more.
With the bowl in your left hand (recieving) and the mirror in your right (sending), reflect the light of the moon off the mirror and into the bowl. After a few moments say:
This liquid is now pure and dedicated to the Lord and Lady. It is free from all negativity in any time and any space.
Set the bowl and mirror down and hold out both of your hands, palms down, over (not touching) the bowl, about one inch above the water.
Let the vibrations of your body come alive. Open your third eye chakra and imagine a glowing purple light emanating from it. Form and open triangle with your hands over the water and project the light into it. In your mind, see the water change color and glow. Feel the power and energy flow from your head down through your arms and up from your feet and out from your arms simultaneously. When you feel the energy begin to dissipate, slowly lower your hands and say:
As I will
So mote it be
With the free will of all
And harm to none
This formula is done!
You may ground your energy in two ways. Either place your hands physically upon the ground and feel the energy drain into Earth Mother, or imagine your energy as a force field around you, and quietly step back out of the skeleton of energy and watch it collapse in upon itself and melt into the ground.
Transfer the water to your storage container and store it away until you are ready to cleanse and concencrate your sacred space. Be sure to clean up after yourself by putting all things away in their designated places so that you will be able to find them again next when they're needed.
